The best way to predict the future is to create it yourself. At The Protein Brewery (TPB), that's exactly what we're doing: feeding a fast-growing world population with healthy, sustainable food. Want to help solve one of the defining challenges of our time? We'd love to meet you.

Who are we?

The Protein Brewery (TPB) is a young, highly innovative company developing and producing sustainable food ingredients that support an active lifestyle and healthy ageing — powered by our pioneering biomass fermentation process.
We're answering the world's growing need for healthy nutrition — especially proteins, fibres and specific nutritional ingredients — sustainably, by harnessing the power of fungi.

Our team in Breda is 40 people strong and growing fast. We've just closed our Series B top-up funding round and secured EFSA approval for our flagship ingredient, Fermotein®.

Ours is a mission-driven organisation — the goals of the company, our teams and every individual are aligned. Our culture comes down to four core values:

SHARING the same purpose. Working together as one team in our pursuit to reach our mission and have a positive and lasting impact on the world around us and beyond, while having fun.

DARING to do what no one did before and encouraging whoever dares to do so. Creating a stimulating environment where people feel free to innovate in a pragmatic way. Enabling us to remain agile and to move ahead speedily.

TRUSTING each other’s capacities, intentions and sense of responsibility, leading to a culture of ownership, undivided responsibility and relentless dedication.

CARING for each other and your work environment. Supporting each other, professionally and personally. Valuing each team member as the person he or she is, regardless of background, capacities or status.

Who are we looking for?
As our Business Controller, you'll bring product costing expertise to the organisation, driving production performance and spotting opportunities for improvement. You'll also play a key role in our scale-up investment project — providing insight, monitoring progress and supporting the purchasing process. You'll report to the CFO and work closely with the COO and Operations Team. Alongside this production controlling focus, you'll own the monthly management report, including forecasting and budgeting.
You'll also contribute to our fundraising efforts, helping build business cases for shareholders, investors, banks and subsidy providers.

What are your responsibilities and scope in this role?

  • Improve and professionalise the production cost report, tracking actual costs against budget and plan and explaining deviations — the weekly, monthly and forecast reports that form the backbone of our production performance tracking. Proactively offer advice, solicited and unsolicited, on product costs.

  • Improve and professionalise the monthly (board) management report including budgeting and forecasting

  • Sit on the capex expansion project team, involved in purchasing, monthly reporting and key decisions

  • Support the CFO on funding projects — equity, loans and non-dilutive funding such as subsidies

  • Act as the CFO's right hand on ad-hoc projects, from strategic initiatives such as CMO decisions, new expansion plans, external investments and acquisitions

  • Monitor the organisation's fixed cost development and prepare and track monthly management reporting together with the management team

  • Relevant knowledge of and experience with Excel, PowerPoint and ERP systems

  • A natural fit with the culture and dynamics of a scale-up: a dedicated team and no shortage of challenges

  • Strong personal skills: analytical, accurate, solution-oriented, pragmatic, stress-resistant and flexible

  • Excellent communication skills, fluent in both Dutch and English.

What do we have to offer?

  • A dynamic, enthusiastic, and rapidly growing scale-up work environment.
