Who are we?

The Protein Brewery (TPB) is a young, highly innovative company that focuses on the development and production of sustainable food ingredients that contribute to active nutrition and healthy living. We do this using traditional brewing and fermentation techniques.
We are responding to the global shift from animal based food ingredients to a sustainable, plant based food chain. Our team in Breda is growing rapidly. Who are we looking for?
The Protein Brewery develops completely new, highly nutritious food ingredients based on fermentation. We are scaling up our fermentation capacity from 2 to 6 fermentors in the coming years, and we are looking for a hands on Process Technologist who wants to play an active role in this growth. A background in the food or fermentation industry is required.
In this role, you are close to the process, on the floor and in the data. You troubleshoot process and equipment issues together with production and maintenance, and you grow into the senior user of our capex program (Bowler)  to expand our installed capacity for structured improvement projects. You play an active role in the commissioning and start up of new fermentors as we scale up our capacity. PDCA (Plan Do Check Act) and continuous improvement are central to how you work, and you help the organisation become more data driven in the way we run and improve our process.


What are your responsibilities and scope in this role?

  • Troubleshooting process and equipment issues, together with production and maintenance.

  • Growing into the senior user of our project program (BOWLER)

  • Playing an active role in the commissioning and start up of new fermentors, as we scale up from 2 to 6 fermentors.

  • Driving PDCA (Plan Do Check Act) based continuous improvement of the fermentation process.

  • Analysing process data and helping the organisation become more data driven.

  • Determining specifications and requirements for new fermentation equipment.

  • Ensuring compliance with food safety and process safety requirements.

  • Working closely with production, maintenance and process engineering.

What does your profile look like?

You are a good match with us if you have... 

  • University or HBO degree in Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Food Technology or similar.

  • A hands on mentality, with a preference for being close to the process and the operators.

  • Experience with troubleshooting process or equipment issues in an industrial environment.

  • Experience with, or a strong affinity for, structured continuous improvement methodologies such as PDCA, Lean or Six Sigma.

  • Comfortable working with data, and able to turn data into insight and action.

  • Experience with commissioning and start up of process equipment is a plus.

  • Knowledge of fermentation processes is a plus.

  • Good communication skills and able to work effectively with production, maintenance and quality.

  • Able to switch quickly between hands on troubleshooting and structural process improvement.

  • Proactive attitude and able to initiate and implement improvements independently.

  • Fluent, written and spoken, in Dutch and English.
